Donations for Ukraine

On behalf of the Beth El clergy, staff and lay leadership, our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine. As terrifying and deeply saddening images continue to stream from Ukraine, we are galvanized towards supporting its people. Our congregation has previously communicated the need for financial contributions to important efforts such as the World Union of Progressive Judaism’s Ukraine Fund and the UJA Federation of New York’s relief efforts.

We are writing now to announce that we have made contact with a group here in New York who has organized a collection drive to send supplies and donations to Ukraine: https://donationforukraine.com/ This group has secured shipping towards bringing these items to Ukrainians, both inside the country and to those refugees who have fled the violence.

Beginning on Sunday, March 27, we will be collecting items for donation here at Beth El. You can drop any donated items in the bins located outside our front door. The full list of needed medical, civilian and defense items can be found at https://donationforukraine.com/.

At 11:30 am on Sunday, April 3, volunteers from Beth El will bring the collected items to the sorting area in Brooklyn, where we will participate in the sorting and organizing alongside fellow volunteers. Should you be able to join us in driving the collected items and participating in the sorting, please email Jaclyn Dubray at jdubray@bethelnw.org. Following the volunteering, we can also get together for an early dinner in Brooklyn before heading back to Northern Westchester.

Please consider participating in this important effort, either through your time, donations or financial support. We look forward to doing our part to lift the people of Ukraine, even if only slightly. As the Talmud teaches, Lo alecha ham'lacha ligmor, v'lo ata ben chorim l'hibatil mimena - It is not your duty to fully complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it. Please join us in contributing to this effort.
