Tisha B’Av Observance

Monday, August 12, 2024 8 Av 5784

7:30 PM - 8:30 PMBeit Midrash

Tisha B’Av represents the most solemn day in the Jewish calendar, recalling the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem among other calamities.  It is customary to read from the Book of Lamentations, the prophet Jeremiah’s account of the ransacking of Jerusalem.  This year’s observance carries the additional weight of the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza and the Jewish homeland once again facing threats from all directions.

Please join Rabbi Jaffe and Turia Stark in a contemplative evening of liturgy, music and Israeli poetry in response to the tragedy of October 7th and its aftermath.  We will discuss the familiar themes of loss, longing and hope which sustained our people through 2,000 years of exile and continue to do so today.
