Healthy Chocolate Treats
Ingredients:
- 1 &1/2 cups of walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or any other nut or seed of your choice (to avoid allergies). This recipe is very flexible, feel free to adapt it.
- 2 cups of dates or other dried fruit, such as figs or apricots (dates seem sweeter, therefore if you substitute, I would raise the fruit portion)
- A pinch of salt
- 3-5 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
- Shredded coconut (unsweetened) to garnish (optional)
Please have your food processor (preferred), or mixer/ bullet available.
Malawach (fried flat bread)
Please make the dough ahead of time (at least an hour before), using the instructions below:
- In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Once mixed, add about 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
- Knead until a consistent texture is achieved - soft, smooth, and not too sticky.
- Form a big ball, and put the dough into a bowl, coat it with olive oil, cover with plastic wrap (or any other method to prevent drying), and let it rise (at least an hour).
We will be using butter, oil or margarine (your choice). I find butter to work the best, but it's not a must.
Please have a rolling pin available, extra flour, and a space to roll out the dough.
We will use the stove top and a frying pan (about 8" diameter, flexible).
