Shabbat Attendance

Shabbat Attendance

At Temple Beth El there has always been a strong partnership between home, school and Temple. Our collective goal is to teach our children how to live as Jews. While in the classroom we can teach children about prayer and about belonging to a community, this can never replace actively joining a community in prayer on a regular basis. Further, regular Shabbat attendance reinforces the Hebrew that students learn in class. It is our expectation that religious school students regularly attend Shabbat services either Friday night or Saturday morning with an adult family member.

Each time a student attends Shabbat services either on Friday or Saturday, it is important that they fill out a sign-in card at the back of the sanctuary and leave it with an usher at the conclusion of t’filah to receive credit for their attendance.

The Shabbat service attendance goals for the school year:

First graders    =          1

Second graders =        2

Third graders   =          3

Fourth graders =          4

Fifth graders   =          5

Sixth graders   =          6

In the year prior to a student’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration, they are required to attend Shabbat services (Friday or Saturday) 13 times.
