Yom HaShoah Service

April 11, 2010

“We Will Always Remember…
   We Will Never Forget…”

Join us on Sunday, April 11 at 4:00 pm

As we begin our Yom HaShoah
Holocaust Remembrance Service

with a
Children's Candle Lighting Procession

And as we welcome our special guest speaker
Michael Grunebaum

When Hitler came to power in 1933, Mike Grunebaum’s father and other family members were bankers in Hamburg. As the Germans began passing anti-Semitic laws which were intended to force out Jewish businesses, Mike’s father began taking steps to secure his family’s financial and physical well being. By the summer of 1938 the banking business for Jews in Germany had become untenable and the family was forced to sell out. Michael’s father then managed to get the family out of Germany only a few short weeks before Kristallnacht.

Michael is a past president of Temple Beth El and has been a leader in the Reform Jewish community for over three decades. Come and hear him tell the story of his family’s narrow escape to Switzerland only days before the German crackdown of November 9–10, 1938, during which Jews were killed and their property destroyed.
