Knitzvah – The Work of Our Hands
The Knitzvah Corps is in full swing, working on multiple projects to benefit others. One involves young Temple member, Kate Rosenberg (daughter of Marc and Tina and sister of Brett and James), who created a website as part of her mitzvah project and Girl Scout silver award project. At www.hatsfromtheheart.yolasite.com, knitting and crochet patterns are available to make hats for cancer patients (babies, kids and adults), along with a link to the not-for-profit Hatbox Foundation which acts as a clearing house to get the hats to those who need them.
Kate and mom, Tina, were special guests at the December 16th Knitzvah session, and it was a fun and inspiring evening for all!
For more info on Knitzvah in general, or this project in particular, contact Cathy Lewis Dreilinger at cathyjlewis@optonline.net or 232-6665.
Comida Fresca – The Work of Our Hearts
Comida Fresca (literally ‘fresh food’) is a joint project of Sisterhood and the Tikkun Olam Council created in 2008 to stock the snack bar at Neighbors Link's vita Community Center. The purpose of Comida Fresca is to encourage healthier snacking among the Latinos who congregate at the Center to learn, get work and socialize. The snack bar is a key source of revenue for the organization, and those staffing it learn and practice useful business skills. Two volunteers are needed per week (on Mondays and Tuesdays) to purchase and deliver the following to Neighbors Link at 27 Columbus Avenue in Mt. Kisco between 7:30 AM and 9:00 PM: 2 cases (24 bottles in each) spring water, 2 bunches bananas (stagger ripeness, if possible) 1 crate of Clementines or a large bag of eating orangesA website has been set up to facilitate sign-ups. Go to www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/620158 to join this very worthwhile community.
THE OPPORTUNITY SHOP:
When you do your spring cleaning, bring any unwanted clothes and bric-a-brac (chatchkas!) to the Op Shop (61 North Greeley Ave). One person’s trash is another’s treasure…and the Op Shop has enabled Sisterhood to purchase so many things for the temple for over 50 years, starting with the land the Temple stands on! Donations are accepted daily from 10 am to 4 pm; consignments may be brought in daily from 10 am to 12 noon.
