ADULT EDUCATION

2 New Adult Education Classes for the spring!!!

“Back to the Sources”
Taught by: Richard Abrams, M.A.J.E., RJE
7 Sessions: March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, 9, 16 from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm

Tanakh, Talmud, Midrash, Kabbalistic and Chassidic texts. There exists a wonderful book that enables us to understand the many layers of all this literature, the two thousand years of Jewish commentaries and “voices.” Back to the Sources was edited and compiled by Dr. Barry Holtz, Ph.D. in 1984. To this day it is still the book to use on one’s journey into the sea of classic Jewish texts. If you are interested in understanding the great books of our heritage, what they are and how to read them, come and explore.

 “Introduction to the New Testament”
The Reverend Dr. Leigh Pezet
7 Sessions: March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, 9, 16 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm

This course will examine the background of the New Testament in the Greco-Roman world and First Century Judaism. The historicity of Jesus, the sources and content of the Gospels, the theological significance of the writings of Paul, and the entire canon of what has become, along with the Hebrew Bible, sacred scriptures for Christians will be explored. An emphasis will be on how New Testament Biblical accounts and writings have been played out in the praxis of the Christian religion down through the ages. This will be an important class for those interested in interfaith dialogue.
